From the rolling hills of the Southern Highlands in New South Wales to the bustling Copper Belt of Africa, Robert Leslie’s life has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Born in Johannesburg, Robert grew up in South Africa, later working across Rhodesia, Zambia, and beyond. Along the way, he became a long-distance runner, competing in marathons and ultra-marathons, including the gruelling 90-kilometre Comrades Marathon. His career path was as varied as his life experiences—spanning construction, mining, printing, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare.

Yet it was his time in Southern Rhodesia, during a turbulent era of history, that sparked the story he would one day tell. That story became Song of the Butterflies, the first book in a powerful trilogy.

Today, Robert calls Bowral home, where he continues to draw on a lifetime of adventure, resilience, and storytelling.
